How to choose a laptop

The right laptop isn't the most expensive one - it's the one that fits what you'll actually do with it. Below: how to pick a processor, memory and condition, plus answers to the questions people ask most.

Four things to check before buying

Processor

Match the processor to the task: study and office work don't need a powerful one, programming and multitasking want at least a mid-tier chip, video editing or gaming need a strong processor and a dedicated GPU.

RAM

8GB is the minimum comfortable amount for a browser and office apps. 16GB is comfortable for programming, multitasking and heavy websites. 32GB and up is for video editing, 3D work or heavy applications.

SSD (storage)

256GB covers basic use but fills up fast. 512GB is a comfortable balance for most people. 1TB and up suits large files, games or video work.

Display

13-14" is light and easy to carry. 15-16" is the universal size that suits most people. For design and video work, color coverage (e.g. 100% sRGB) matters more than size.

New, C-REF, or used — which one?

This is the single choice that saves the most money. Here's what each category actually means - all of them are inspected and sold with an official warranty.

New

These laptops have never been used and arrive in unopened factory packaging. All accessories, the power adapter, and documents are kept in the full original set. The technical condition and exterior are 100% new, with no defects whatsoever. It also comes with the manufacturer's full official warranty. The best choice for those who want maximum reliability and a long service life.

C-REF (refurbished)

These laptops are fully refurbished at the manufacturer's own factory and have passed an official inspection. If any part had a defect, it was replaced only with an original new part. The exterior and technical condition are a solid 10/10 — just like new. It comes with the manufacturer's official warranty. The most reliable way to get new-laptop quality at a noticeably lower price.

Used

Laptops that were carefully used by someone else for a period of time. Before listing them, we fully diagnosed the cooler, battery, and screen of each unit. The body may show natural signs of use, but the system runs without issues. The most affordable and budget-friendly category on the market. A far safer and more reliable option than buying secondhand from an individual.

Open Box

This category includes completely unused laptops where only the box was opened. This usually happens when a customer picked the wrong model by mistake, or the unit was used as a store display. The battery charge and all the device's equipment are in like-new condition. The original charger and documents are fully included. A chance to get a new laptop at a solid discount.

Choose by what you'll use it for

Study and students

8-16GB RAM, 256-512GB SSD and a modest processor is enough - this is usually the most affordable price tier. C-REF or used is the sensible way to save money here specifically.

Office and remote work

16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and solid battery life - comfortable for multiple windows and video calls. A new or C-REF laptop is recommended.

Design and video editing

You need a strong processor, a dedicated GPU, at least 16GB RAM and a display with good color coverage. New is often the right call in this category.

Gaming

A dedicated GPU, a strong processor and a high refresh-rate display (120Hz+, for example) matter most. Pay particular attention to the GPU model and VRAM amount.

How to plan a budget
